  • It released in 2023 and has now accrued more than two million players!

When it comes to Indian-made releases, it seems we’re slowly seeing this massive country unlocking its potential. But one that’s slipped under the radar is the mythology-inspired card battler Kurukshetra: Ascension which has just surpassed over two million players!

Based on the world of Indian mythology and its truly epic scale (as fans of Asura’s Wrath can attest) Kurukshetra: Ascension boasts not only multiplayer PvP duels but also its own single-player campaign that lets you take on demons, warriors and cosmic beasts. Available via the Google Play and iOS App Store, it released back in 2023 and has since spread worldwide.

While it may be lesser-known in the West than mainstays such as Greek and Norse mythology, the world of India’s ancient epics is just as massive with larger-than-life heroes and warriors that have inspired the world of Kurukshetra. And it’s not a static project either as season eleven, Journey to the Himalayas, introduces a new playable hero with Himavat, weapons and a whole lot more!

Beyond the mountains

I’ve noticed that there seems to be a serious emphasis on Indian culture in a lot of locally developed projects (like Indus), which is unsurprising. You only need to look as far as the introduction of many Lunar New Year events in Chinese-developed releases to see how the gaming world can help to communicate and promote culture so effectively.

With more than fourteen million matches having been played across all modes, millions of hours in PvP and more, it seems players have very much gravitated towards what Kurukshetra has to offer.
