Pokémon Go to increase global spawn rates in major new move

  • Pokémon Go is making a major change by upping global spawn rates
  • You’ll also get a boost to encounters and spawn areas in more densely-populated areas
  • It’s part of a suite of moves by Niantic to bring the nearly decade-old game up to scratch

Pokémon Go, Niantic’s flagship AR release produced in collaboration with the famous creature-catching franchise, may have faced its ups and downs. But Niantic looks to win back anyone still sceptical post-Covid with a major new change as spawn rates are set to receive a boost!

Yes, that’s right. This isn’t temporary, or event-specific. Pokémon are set to spawn more frequently and both encounters and areas they spawn will also increase in densely-populated areas. Ever since Niantic struggled to bring back the IRL component of Go post-covid there have been some updates that won praise and some that ticked people off.

However, I’ve no doubt that for those of you struggling to nab the Pokemon of your choice, this will be very welcome news. Since spawn rates seem to have been a particular target of criticism, updating them is a very easy win for Niantic, and sure to be a major hit with players too.

Now you CAN catch ’em all

I wouldn’t necessarily call this an admission of any mistakes or mishandling on Niantic’s part, however. By updating the spawn rate of Pokémon Niantic seems to be moving with the times. After all, even in the nearly ten years since Go was released (has it really been that long?) many towns and cities have changed drastically.

That’s not to mention where and how players are spread out, I’m sure those of you living in big cities will welcome an increase in spawn rates during the colder months of the year so you don’t have to spend quite as much time outside!

Speaking of the Pokémon franchise though, and that off their spiritually-inspired successor Palworld, why not check out our latest Ahead of the Game article to find out more about the strangely-named Palmon: Survival and see what this oddball mashup has to offer?
