Black Desert players help contribute whopping donation to Doctors without Borders

- The money was accrued via a special promotional campaign with player contributions
With how dire the world can seem, sometimes it’s nice to get a bit of a bright spot. And thanks to adventurers playing in both Black Desert and Black Desert Mobile, the folks at Pearl Abyss have helped gather a whopping 67,000 Euros ($69,800) donation.
It’s not unprecedented either, as this is the sixth year of the collaboration between Pearl Abyss and Médecins Sans Frontieres (the official designation of Doctors without Borders). You’ll recall that special in-game events saw you participating in designated quests and purchasing donation items using in-game currency that translated into a real-world donation.
Best of all? The donations provided to Doctors without Borders will go towards providing urgent medical aid in Nigeria for Noma patients, helping establish cholera treatment centres and supplying therapeutic food to combat malnutrition. All while the folks at the MSF provide health care in conflict zones.
Through the desert
Pearl Abyss has hosted these donation events since 2019, and it’s obvious that whatever else you can say about it they’ve contributed a significant amount thanks to the efforts of players. It’s a powerful reminder that the collaborative effort of multiplayer that helps players band together to accomplish objectives can also be turned towards good.
It’s certainly not unusual for companies to make these donations thanks to player contributions, and while of course there’s an element of promotion to it I think that even if it’s made in a shrewd manner, you can’t deny the good results.
