Expelled! sees you framed as a killer in a Girl’s Boarding School, but was it you?

  • Expelled! is a new release from inkle, the folks behind Overboard
  • Play as the wrongfully accused (?) schoolgirl Verity Amersham in a case of attempted murder
  • Either clear your name cleanly or batter your way to acquittal

Why would anyone want to send their child to boarding school, I wonder. Aside from the peer pressure, loneliness and general snobbiness, there are also people being pushed out of windows! Well, maybe that’s not the case everywhere but it certainly is in Expelled! from inkle.

Expelled! sees you playing as goody two-shoes Verity Amersham at Miss Mulligatawney’s School for Promising Girls (snappy name, I know) in 1922. You’ve always been good, but when a prefect is pushed out the window you’re on the hook for attempted murder of all things!

So, there’s only one thing to do, clear your name by means fair or foul. You have one school day to do so, and characters will move and act independently throughout, meaning you’re racing against the clock. Whether you clear your name by finding the real culprit, frame someone else or just clobber everyone with your hockey stick, the choice is yours!

An inkleing

It’s very easy to recommend Expelled! and that’s without even getting into Catherine Dellosa’s glowing review of it. Inkle is responsible for what I would call my favourite mobile game of all time, 80 Days, and they managed to strike gold with the murder get-away-with-it visual novel Overboard!

So while Expelled! has you playing a much less sinister main character, you’re welcome to either play it as straight as possible, pin the crime on someone else, or turn into a teenage Punisher. Oh, and did I mention that you may not technically be as innocent as you first seem?

You’ll just have to play Expelled! for yourself and find out.

Speaking of which, if you want to keep clued in to all the best upcoming releases you’ve come to the right place. We’ve got our list of the best upcoming games for 2025 already sitting pretty for you to peruse!
