  • Foil their attempts to steal a sacred Shinboku tree and get some snazzy new cosmetics
  • Also, hear the original Carmen Sandiego theme song now integrated into the soundtrack!

With the release of its first video game incarnation in many years, the Carmen Sandiego franchise has stepped back into the spotlight thanks to Netflix and their globe-spanning action-adventure based on the animated reboot. And now, you’ll get an even bigger hit of nostalgia with the return of the famous Carmen Sandiego theme song, and even more globe-trotting action in the latest update!

To start, Carmen Sandiego is headed to Japan in what has been dubbed the first Free FestiVILE, a limited-time event running from April 7th to May 4th. It will coincide with the real-world Cherry Blossom festival and sees Carmen Sandiego trying to foil the forces of VILE and their attempts to steal the sacred Shinboku tree.

You’ll even get to add a bit of traditional Japanese fare to your wardrobe, as the reward for solving this case will give Carmen a happi coat to wear in place of her classic red trenchcoat. But hurry, because you haven’t got long to put the clues together and solve the mystery!

Where in the world?

But that’s not what you’re here to hear about, naturally. And yes, we can confirm that the classic Carmen Sandiego theme song will be making a return! First composed by Sean Altman and David Yazbek of Rockapella, this catchy little ditty will be available on the soundtrack for Deluxe Edition owners and can be heard in-game by those with the Standard Edition.

Despite Netflix having stumbled a bit with the cancellation of their hotly-touted Netflix Stories franchise, it seems that the streamer is still committed to making their reboot of the 90s trenchcoat-wearing favourite a success.
