  • Sonic Rumble is set to hold a pre-release crossover event
  • Characters from Altered Beast, Fantasy Zone and Super Monkey Ball will all appear
  • You can claim some for free, while others will be available as in-game purchases

While its worldwide release date may still be a little while away (May 8th to be exact), it seems that Sonic Rumble isn’t waiting long to start off its first crossover event. But this isn’t bringing in outside influence. Oh no, because top Sega stars of past and present are joining the rumble!

Oddly enough, this crossover event will take place pre-global release, assumedly available to those lucky enough to be in regions where it’s in soft launch. From today until May 7th you’ll be able to able to claim the Werewolf character, based on the classic release Altered Beast, for free.

Meanwhile, subscribers to the Sega Star Event Pass can gain access to another Altered Beast character in the form of the Weredragon, as well as Sega’s first mascot Opa-Opa from the arcade classic Fantasy Zone.

Lucky you

That’s still not all, because even more characters will be available via the in-game Ring Shop in the form of Upa-Upa and the Werebear, while the Red Star Ring Shop offers characters from Super Monkey Ball with AiAi and MeeMee!

While it’s rather unusual to have an event like this take place before release, I’m sure many of you who are lucky enough to access it in soft launch will be looking forward to getting your hands on these characters.

I would assume this isn’t the last we’ll see of them either, and according to Sega, this is only the start of a jam-packed calendar full of crossovers and collaborations which they have planned for Sonic Rumble.

Speaking of upcoming releases though, did you know that Finnish dev Supercell is set to make another rare launch soon? Check out our Mo.co preview and see why you should be taking a second glance at this quirky, monster-hunting part-timer simulator coming soon to iOS and Android!
