  • New Japanese expansion is now live
  • New Bullet Train network alongside four other railcars
  • Two new characters also join the fray

Just a few months after the Switzerland expansion made its digital debut, Ticket to Ride is back with another fan-favourite map, Japan. This marks the first time the Japan Expansion has made the leap from physical to digital, and it comes with one big twist. You aren’t just racing to complete your own tickets – teamwork and collaboration will be essential to succeed.

The Japan map naturally introduces the Bullet Train network to Ticket to Ride, a set of high-speed shared routes spanning the country. While everyone can use them, you are also expected to pitch in to build them.

On the hunt for something similar? Here’s a list of the best board games to play on iOS!

Skip the teamwork, and you’ll be hit with a 20-point penalty at the end of the match, a serious blow in a game where every point counts. The result is a tense balancing act between competition and cooperation.

There’s more to explore beyond strategy as well. Two new characters come with the expansion, each tied closely to Japan’s culture. Nakanishi Kimiko, a travel blogger, journeys across the country’s colourful festivals with her loyal dog, whereas Moriyama Isamu, a Gyoji referee, adds a traditional flair to the board as he connects players to the country’s history.

You also get four new additions to their train collection. The Ichi Eki Saki train and Tsuki Sleeper carriage offer a relaxed, scenic vibe, while the Isogaba Maware train and Hayai carriage are built for speed, perfect for navigating Japan’s fast-paced routes.

This expansion is perfect as Japan is one of the most beautiful places to be in around springtime thanks to the sakura. Download Ticket to Ride now by clicking on your preferred link below. It is available for $6.99 or your local equivalent. Visit the official Facebook page for more information.
