  • Supercell’s Mo.co has proven to be a major hit
  • It’s raked in $2.5m in revenue since hitting soft launch
  • But this spike quickly dropped after reaching that high

Supercell’s upcoming millennial monster-hunting multiplayer, Mo.co, has proven to be a hit already, even before release. At least if you take revenue into account, as it’s already surpassed $2.5m according to the most recent estimates, as collated by Pocketgamer.biz.

But, if you’re not familiar with Mo.co you might be wondering exactly what it’s about. Well, essentially you smash together a modern millennial social gaming platform, and a hefty dose of Monster Hunter, and you get Mo.co. You play a stylish part-time hunter that takes on contracts to deal with all manner of evil invaders from beyond.

No doubt the presence of so many cosmetics and other goodies to grab has helped fuel that revenue spike early on for Mo.co. But rather than a sign of impending doom it could equally be that the lack of further content so far in its invite-led soft launch is stymieing potential further success.

Superstitious cell

Why does it matter? Well, for one, Supercell have historically managed their massive business by being unconventionally ruthless with their releases. Rather than trying to split their team’s attention across multiple titles, they only prioritise the most promising of performers for launch.

This has led to some initially weak, but quickly surging releases, such as Brawl Stars and Squad Busters. However, it also means that we’ve lost out on some other promising releases like Flood Rush and Everdale as they’ve been axed by Supercell before launch.

Will Mo.co go the same way? Well with this success it may be that Supercell will see how well new content helps revive spending, and hopefully we might soon see Mo.co hitting storefronts proper.

But while you may not be able to play Mo.co in its closed state just yet, if you want to stay Ahead of the Game why not instead dig into our top feature of the same name for great games you can play in early access on mobile?
