  • Eclipsoul is a newly-released Hades-inspired idle RPG
  • Deploy five distinct heroes supported by troops into strategic auto battles
  • Explore a dense PvE campaign and dedicated PvP modes

With its stylish visual flair and hardcore roguelike gameplay, Hades was rightfully a favourite amongst fans on every platform. And if you’ve wanted to see that same sort of aesthetic translated to something within the more familiar strategy RPG genre, then the recently-released Eclipsoul is for you!

Now on Android from Peraspera Games, Eclipsoul takes you into a world inspired by European mythology where the light has been devoured by an evil force known as the Eclipse Legion. Naturally, it falls to you to command the forces of the gods to restore light to the world.

Interestingly enough, gameplay-wise Eclipsoul bears a lot of resemblance to something like Heroes of Might & Magic. The core mechanic is still about auto-battling of course, but you’ll be able to deploy five heroes from a distinct mythological who’ll lead a variety of customisable troops to take on the forces of darkness.

Heroes of Myth and Mythology

What made Eclipsoul stand out to me wasn’t necessarily the mythological inspiration, or even the Hades-like artstyle, but instead the gameplay. The HOMM franchise is responsible for a good deal of the modern gameplay conventions we associate with strategy, so seeing it come to the idle RPG genre is a surprisingly obvious next evolutionary step.

Content-wise, Eclipsoul looks stuffed to the gills with things to do, as it boasts a dense PvE campaign and dedicated PvP modes. And, naturally, for those of us with busy lives there’s also the benefits of those idle rewards to consider if you want to give Eclipsoul a chance to impress with it’s promises of grand mythological storytelling.

In the meantime, if this gives you a taste for the HOMM-like mix of heroes and units, why not dig into our review of Songs of Conquest? This equally Might & Magic-inspired strategy boasts gorgeous 2.5D art, dense strategic gameplay and other interesting features.
