  • Grunt Rush is the debut release from Savvy Games’ Steer Studios
  • Multiply your troops and overwhelm your opponents on the battlefield
  • Use different, distinct units and destroy the enemy base

The growing Saudi Arabian development industry has been a hot topic for discussion, but it seems at least one high-profile investment is bearing fruit. Steer Studios, a subsidiary of Savvy Games, has released its debut title with RTS puzzler Grunt Rush.

At a glance it’s easy to see the appeal of Grunt Rush, it is after all clearly emulating those advertised mobile releases which see you solving simple equations to direct your character through a multiplier. “Get the gun! Get more troops!”, and so on, and so forth.

However, where Grunt Rush differs is that these multiplier gates are only a small part of the concept. We’ve all played RTS like Starcraft or Dawn of War where a rush of cheap units to overwhelm your enemy is always a tempting option, and Grunt Rush looks to emulate that.

Chaaarge!!!

Essentially, the focus is on overwhelming the enemy before they overwhelm you. Be that with a raw tide of regular recruits, specialists or even the occasional vehicle. Sure, it may not be RISK but there’s definitely some strategic depth, however straightforward.

With its colourful characters and graphics, straightforward gameplay and the ability to play offline, it’s obvious that Steer Studios have aimed to hit all the points for what people want out of mobile today. I’ve no doubt that this’ll be appealing to a broad audience, butr the real test for Steer will be what kind of staying power it has, but with the promise of a battle pass, tournaments and PvP it looks as if they’ve taken that into account.
