The Ragnarok franchise has been a cornerstone of the MMORPG genre for many years, and now its latest iteration, Ragnarok X: Next Generation, is officially available worldwide. Translating the original series into a brand-new format, it offers an updated experience for modern players and other top features.

If you’ve played Ragnarok Online, then much of Ragnarok X will be familiar to you. In a world inspired by Norse mythology, you take on the role of a humble adventurer, be that Swordsman, Archer, Merchant or something else (all with their own subclasses).

However, where Ragnarok X differs is in translating the original look of Ragnarok Online into a fully 3D format. Offering cross-play between different platforms such as PC and mobile, and a variety of quality-of-life features such as smart navigation and auto questing, it’s clearly aimed at a much wider audience than before.

With its bevvy of new features and technological twists on the original, Ragnarok X may be a bit of a change for dedicated fans. But at the same time, there are a great many love letters to the original release present, and you’ll find brand-new 3D representations of fan-favourite locations such as Prontera and Geffen to explore.

Meanwhile, for those who’ve watched from the sidelines, Ragnarok X promises to translate the slightly intimidating and vast nature of the original franchise into a more approachable format. And with all the quality-of-life features included, there’s never been a better time to dig in and take a look!

In the meantime, though, if you need a break from Ragnarok X, there’s no need to drop your phone. Instead, why not dig into our list of the top five new mobile games to try this week and have a crack at the best launches from the last seven days!
