  • Dino Quake is an upcoming retro platformer arriving June 19th
  • Jump to the top then come crashing down to cause quakes that incapacitate enemies
  • Unlock new characters and explore different paths towards challenging bosses

In a genre as well-trodden as the platformer, it’s how new releases make themselves stand out mechanically which can make the difference between success and failure. So today’s subject, Dino Quake, certainly does with an interesting, earth-shattering take on platforming with an extra Jurassic twist!

Dino Quake’s core gameplay mechanic is simple. You need to make your way upwards and drop down to create an earthquake, which will incapacitate enemies, and then boot them sideways to dispose of them properly. It means you’ll need to not only make your way up in the first place, but also do so while planning out your descent too.

It’s not surprising, then, that Dino Quake is selling itself based on ‘pure arcade gameplay’. But it’s not just a riff on older platformers, as you’ll also have access to multiple paths with which to explore the various worlds of Dino Quake, ensuring there’s always something new to discover.

Crunchy!

Naturally, there’s also all the usual conventions of the retro platformer. Which means funky chiptune music and gorgeously crunchy 16-bit graphics to enjoy. With unlockable characters to boot, Dino Quake definitely has a little more depth than it gives itself credit for with that ‘pure arcade gameplay’.

The best part is that you’ll be able to nab Dino Quake no matter what platform you’re on, as it’s set to arrive for iOS and Android June 19th in just a little over a month. So if you’ve been looking to lay the hammer (er, scaly feet?) down on some no-good reptiles, maybe Dino Quake is for you?

Want to put your platforming skills to the test? Think you’ve played everything there is to satisfy that need on mobile? Well, why not dig into our list of the top 25 best platformers for iOS and Android to put that to the test!
