  • Happy Game is Epic Games’ free release of the week
  • Download and keep this nightmare puzzler
  • Explore three separate nightmares to rescue a young boy trapped in a cycle of night terrors

The Epic Games Store for mobile has revealed its free release of the week! This time around, it’s developer Amanita Design’s Happy Game. And no prizes for guessing that, despite the name, this is not a happy time for anyone involved, well, except for those who claim it to download and keep for free, that is.

Happy Game sees you making your way through a psychedelic nightmare as a young boy who falls asleep only to wake up in a gory world filled with mayhem. All is not as it seems, as Amanita take their experience with wacky puzzlers like Chuchel and turns it on its head to be nothing more than pure nightmare fuel.

You’ll be faced with three separate nightmares and forced to solve all manner of bizarre and disturbing puzzles, all while saccharine environments hide truly unpleasant sights and sounds. And in case you thought sound was an escape, the creepy soundtrack by Czech band DVA is sure to keep you up at night.

Happy happy joy joy

I was genuinely surprised to find out that Amanita Designs had created Happy Game. Especially considering I really only knew them from Chuchel, which, despite its manic desig,n is probably as kid-friendly as you can get.

But if you’re in any doubt as to whether Happy Game is worth your time, I urge you to check out our review penned back in 2023, which saw Will giving it a fairly positive four stars and praising the atmosphere and horror.

But even if Happy Game isn’t for you, there’s plenty to try that’s arrived on mobile in the past week. Check out our list of the top five new mobile games to try this week for some of our top picks in virtually every genre, from puzzler to action, uploaded on Thursday each week!
