  • Gigapocalypse is your free release of the week on Epic Games
  • Enjoy a retro side-scroller inspired by classics such as Rampage
  • Raise your own giga and trounce the arrogance of humanity by laying waste to cities

After their resounding victory in the ongoing legal battle against Apple, you’d forgive Epic Games for taking something of a victory lap. Fortunately for us, though, they’re right back to the usual with their latest free mobile release for this week, the smashing and crashing Gigapocalypse!

Inspired by giant monster movies, Japanese kaiju and classics of gaming such as Rampage, Gigapocalypse sees you controlling your own enormous beast. Crush cars, destroy buildings and generally decimate everything standing in your way! It’s the ultimate power fantasy with a retro-flavoured twist for fans of crunchy, pixellated destruction.

But it’s not all fire and flames, you’ll also be able to customise your own personal giga and take care of them in a Tamagotchi-style minigame. You can uncover secrets to decorate your giga and their home, or unlock pets to accompany them on their crusade to leave no skyscraper undemolished.

It looks like Godzilla, but due to international copyright legislation, it’s not

Epic Games’ policy of free releases may be a great way to get your hands on some top launches when it comes to PC, but over on mobile, it’s proven to be an equally great way to find some amazing indie releases you might not otherwise find.

Gigapocalypse promises hours of fun destroying cities, and all in a cute enough way that you don’t need to think about all the casualties! But, in all seriousness, Gigapocalypse presents a pretty compelling retro take on the classics, with just enough of a twist that you’re sure to find something new to enjoy!
