  • Huntbound is a 2D indie monster hunter riff, now revamped
  • Version 3.0 offers remastered visuals, UI and gameplay
  • A new meta progression system keeps the fun going with upgrades and skill refinements

There are a great many indies out there that riff on an existing concept, and Huntbound is no different. After all, you’d have to be ignorant not to see some clear inspiration from a certain famous monster-hunting series. But that isn’t to denigrate Huntbound, far from it, as its version 3.0 update offers major new changes that give this interesting indie a big boost!

Huntbound essentially functions in the same way as Monster Hunter. You track various dangerous beasties around a map and work either alone or together with other players to slay them. After you’re done, you can then gather up the materials that drop from them in order to craft stronger equipment.

The version 3.0 update for Huntbound offers major refinements of that simple but straightforward formula. You can enjoy a full revamp of the gameplay with refined controls, a visual overhaul of both the art, UI and visual effects.

It’s not just general revamps you’ll be able to enjoy, either! You can also look forward to redesigned monsters and maps, as well as an overall refined progression system. You’ll have a new gear upgrade system, loot rarities and skill refinements that all hope to add some depth to this lo-fi take on the genre.

It’s good to see the folks at Tao Team doing their best to refine Huntbound. I can see the appeal of a release like this, which takes a formula that, admittedly, Monster Hunter demands a lot of time from players to complete. So, making it faster, more refined and (hopefully) more fun is a smart choice.

But if you’re still not fussed on Huntbound, there are plenty of other options out there for you to play this weekend. Why not dig into our list of the top five new mobile games to try this week and take a look?
