With the Roland-Garros eSeries by Renault finals set to kick off on May 24th, we took the time to speak with Tennis Clash’s developer, Wildlife Studios, to discuss the significance of the eSeries event, its partnership with the French Tennis Federation, and the journey that its immensely popular PvP tennis game has taken so far – stay tuned also for an exclusive new content reveal!

First off, how does it feel to be the creators of the official tennis game for mobile?

It’s both an incredible honour and a significant responsibility. Tennis Clash represents a sport that means so much to us, not just as game makers but as tennis fans, too. We’re proud to have created a game that resonates with millions of players worldwide and captures the spirit of the sport in a fun, competitive, and accessible way. Being at the forefront of tennis gaming on mobile is something we don’t take lightly; we’re constantly striving to deliver the quality and authenticity the sport deserves.

Did you have any inkling of just how successful Tennis Clash would be during testing and its initial release stages?

We knew there was a clear opportunity for a high-quality tennis game in the mobile space, and we were confident in the gameplay we were building; it felt fresh, skill-based, and instantly fun. Still, during prototyping, we couldn’t have imagined the scale it would reach. That said, by the time we launched in 2019, we had a strong sense that we were onto something special.

How do you ensure that the game stays continually fresh and relevant for its fans?

Content is everything. We invest heavily in keeping the game dynamic through new game modes, progression systems, and a steady stream of events. Partnerships with iconic brands also play a huge role, whether it’s introducing new characters, themed courts, or exclusive cosmetics, we aim to surprise and delight our community. It’s about keeping players engaged with things they already love, while also introducing them to new experiences within the game.

Was Tennis Clash your first attempt at designing a real-time PvP title, and were there any special considerations you had to keep in mind during development?

We had developed real-time PvP games before, but Tennis Clash introduced a whole new set of challenges. Because of the fast-paced nature of tennis, ensuring tight synchronization between players and minimizing latency was absolutely critical. We had to push the boundaries of what was possible on mobile in terms of real-time responsiveness at the time, and that effort paid off; Tennis Clash delivers a smooth, competitive experience that’s become a core pillar of the game’s success.

How significant a role has the fan community played in Tennis Clash’s journey so far?

The community has been vital from day one. Their passion, feedback, and creativity have helped shape the game in meaningful ways. A moment many players can relate to is that spark of competitiveness when they feel ready to challenge their friends, or join a club, or participate in grassroots tournaments. It’s also always fun to witness that spirit of competition during live activations, where we give new audiences a chance to experience the game. There’s often a pair of friends, or even siblings, who end up diving into a series of fierce matches at the Tennis Clash booth, despite having just been introduced to the game. That playful competition is a big part of what makes the game so approachable.

This month will see the eighth edition of the Roland-Garros eSeries. How did your partnership with the FFT come about, and how has the eSeries contributed to Tennis Clash’s continued success?

The FFT’s ambition to create the world’s leading eTennis competition aligned perfectly with our vision for Tennis Clash, so when they reached out in 2022, it felt like a natural partnership. Hosting the Roland-Garros eSeries in Tennis Clash each year has helped solidify our position as the definitive tennis game on mobile. Beyond the prestige, it creates unforgettable moments for our players, like the chance to travel to Paris and compete live at Roland-Garros. It’s an incredible way to celebrate the sport, engage our community, and grow the game’s global footprint.

Lastly, are there any upcoming updates or new features that players can look forward to this year?

Absolutely, there’s a lot to be excited about. We’ve just launched Naomi Osaka in the game, marking the debut of a new series of characters we’re calling Legends. This lineup will feature licensed professional players, bringing even more authenticity and star power to Tennis Clash. Naomi is just the beginning; more Legends will be joining the game later this year. We’re not revealing any names just yet, but fans should definitely stay tuned.
