  • Kaiju No. 8 is set to include a brand-new original character
  • Sagan Shinomiya is the mysterious adoptive older sister of Kikoru Shinomiya
  • Her backstory and much of her role in the story are under wraps until launch

As any dedicated anime or manga fan can tell you, the cast of some of these series can grow to be quite expansive, to say the least. And Kaiju No. 8 is set to follow that trend, this time with a new original character debuting exclusively as part of Kaiju No. 8: The Game!

The story of Kaiju No. 8: The Game differs from the original series somewhat, with the appearance of mysterious gates across Japan now threatening to unleash more giant monsters than ever. Naturally, that necessitates the creation of another new organisation aside from the Kaiju Defence Force to help fend off these monsters and close the gates.

This organisation, called CLOZER (Closing Order with Zero Restrictions. No, I’m not kidding), is led by none other than the new original character Sagan Shinomiya, on the left in our featured image. As the mysterious adoptive older sister of Kikoru Shinomiya, the developers are keeping elements of her backstory, weaponry and what role she’ll play in the story closely guarded.

Big monsters

It’s not unusual for releases based on anime and manga to include one or two original characters, often in the role of protagonist. These tend to serve as player avatars and make for a great way to ease newcomers into the often complicated worlds that the regular cast inhabits.

What’s notable here is that developer Akatsuki Games seems to be focusing a lot of their attention on Kaiju No. 8, with their other anime adaptation, Tribe Nine, being axed a mere three months after launch. With that in mind, it may make fans a bit cautious about what they can expect when Kaiju No. 8 launches.
