  • Albion Online has unveiled new details about the upcoming Abyssal Depths update
  • That includes more about the new player experience, including custom tutorial paths
  • You’ll also be able to access new goodies by raising your Antiquarian Standing in the Depths

With its promise of brand-new locations to explore and an enhanced experience for new players, I wouldn’t be surprised if many of you are excited for Albion Online’s upcoming Abyssal Depths update. And if you weren’t already hyped, then you will be with plenty of juicy new details just released about this update!

Albion Online plops you into a fantasy world not unlike something like RuneScape, but with the added twist of a survival sandbox experience. Rather than worrying about levelling up woodcutting, you’ll be working to gather resources and equipment with a classless RPG system that lets you pursue your own playstyle. With a player-driven economy and PvP zones where losing your hard-earned loot is a real risk, this is great for those of you wanting a real challenge in your open-world RPG.

As you might expect, this can be a pretty intimidating environment to step into for the first time, but Sandbox Interactive have promised a major overhaul to the new player experience with the Abyssal Depths update. The post-tutorial experience, for example, is now folded into the main Albion Journal for ease of access, and you can pick between three custom paths (Adventurer, Duelist or Merchant) to guide you through your chosen playstyle.

Into the depths

Of course, if you’re just looking for action, this update isn’t lacking in that department either. Abyssal Depths also introduces The Depths, an extraction dungeon that pits you and a group of friends against other players and deadly monsters in a fight to survive and extract with your loot in tow.

By raising your standing with The Antiquarian (through whom you’ll also access The Depths) via escaping this dungeon or fighting in Corrupted Dungeons and Hellgates, you can gain access to special rewards, such as a hell-themed avatar, spiderling mounts and other goodies.
