The Wrapp – Hedgehog card games, bird-based golf and yet another pretty gacha RPG

Hey there, welcome to our latest edition of The Wrapp.

This is a chance for you to see what the various members of the Pocket Gamer team are planning to play over this weekend and will, hopefully, give you an idea of some of the weird and wonderful things we get up to when we’re not keeping you up to speed with the latest news and tips. Heck, you might even find a new game to play.

In honour of this being Pride month, I think I’m going to spend some time checking out games with Pride events. Additionally, I’ll be seeking out new and old titles created by LGBTQIA+ studios, creators, and more. Then I’ve to look for games that centre around that community or have prominent characters who are a part of it. It’ll be interesting to see what I can find, and maybe I’ll end up making a very colourful list.

Happy Pride, everybody!

Echoing Will’s sentiment! I’m not sure if I’ll get much gaming in this weekend, unfortunately, but if I do, I’ll probably be digging into the Power Up Pride bundle on Humble. I’m excited to dig in, as the only bundled title I’ve played before is A Normal Lost Phone. Echoes of the Plum Grove sounds very up my street (and absolutely adorable), so I’ll either be foraging and mining over there, or exploring the island of Elk in the fittingly named Welcome to Elk.

I’ve just landed back from Barcelona (for Pocket Gamer Connects Barcelona – which went great!) and spent the entire flight playing Suzerain. As such, I’m going to attempt to wrap up that premiership and then probably get started up again. I’m really fascinated by the levelling up system that they added into the game after I initially played it, and it’s been long enough (since my last BIG run through) that everything feels fresh and exciting.

This weekend, I will need to sit down and do some very, very, unrelentingly boring WordPress admin work that I have been putting off. Luckily, Etheria: Restart has launched to soothe my soul, so I can jump into that. It is giving me Honkai: Star Rail vibes, and I am interested to see if it also superheats my mobile.

As a side note, we got a look at IO Interactive’s 007 First Light trailer in the State of Play, and may I just say, gimmie.

As usual, I’ll be diving into regional launches this weekend, and this time, it’s Sonic Blitz. I already played through the tutorial, and it’s got my interest piqued, so I’ll be keeping at it over the weekend to see if it’s got the potential to be the next Pokémon TCG Pocket-slash-Marvel Snap.

I’m also tempted to give Etheria: Restart a go, but at the same time afraid it’ll take up my entire weekend, so thankfully, Shaun is on it, so I can just wait for him to give us his thoughts. I’d say that’s called teamwork!

This weekend I’m entering a cat show with my fur baby, so I won’t have any time for gaming!

I’ll be a bit occupied myself this weekend, but I’ve been finding time to jump in (pun not intended) to Jump King and give it a go. And, of course, there’s always a bit of Balatro when I have the time and want to put my brain cells to the test.

Of the many games released this week, the one that’s caught my eye is Super Flappy Golf. As I’ve possibly mentioned before, it’s not a sport that I particularly care about in real life. But give it an arcade twist, and suddenly, it becomes appealing. So, the idea of crazy golf meets Flappy Bird? Yes, that’s definitely up my alley.

Outside of mobile, I’ve recently picked up Elden Ring Nightreign. Despite having conflicted feelings about Elden Ring in the first place (can you truly hate something if you’ve played it for 320 hours and got the Platinum trophy?), I can’t seem to resist anything the developer puts out. It’s the roguelike approach in Nightreign that’s enticed me. The multiplayer angle does not. So, I’ll try it out solo first and see how I get on. And yes, I appreciate that’s woefully missing the point.
