  • Plants Vs Zombies is joining Webtoon!
  • The series is joining other properties published by Dark Horse on the hit app
  • It’ll feature the exclusive vertical scrolling format popular with mobile readers

Plants Vs Zombies is coming to the four-colour page of comic books! Well, at least on mobile it is, because PvZ is one of a number of gaming properties now set to arrive on the app. Courtesy of a partnership between Webtoon and Dark Horse, who publish comics based on PopCap Games’ hit franchise.

Webtoons itself will be familiar to many readers who may’ve checked in on the site’s collection of manhwa, officially licensed series and other graphic fare. But now, alongside The Witcher, Critical Role and Cyberpunk 2077, Plants Vs Zombies will also be taking top billing with this new partnership.

The Plants Vs Zombies series, which looks to be a continuation of the existing series published by Dark Horse, will also feature the vertical scrolling format that Webtoons has helped popularise. Especially useful for mobile readers, it’s been used extensively in some of the most popular series published on the platforms.

Four panels, no waiting

While comic books may not be the multimedia sensation you might expect Plants Vs Zombies to aim for, it’s undeniable that they remain a hugely popular format. Not just among readers either, as Studio Ellipsis expanded the universe of their hit RPG Sea of Conquest with the publication of a comic series called Cradle of the Gods with its own all-star writing and art team.

Now, whether or not this marks a bold new epoch for PvZ depends on what you think of comics. But it certainly offers a new way for fans to engage with the series around its 16th birthday.
