In children’s literature, there are few international symbols as recognised and beloved as the iconic Moomins. These pale troll-like(?) humanoids that inhabit the titular Moominvalley have delighted readers old and young alike for decades. Now, you’ll soon be able to enjoy the peace and quiet of Moominvalley for yourself as Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley has hit pre-registration for iOS and Android.

Melody of Moominvalley is a story-rich adventure that sees Moominvalley taken over by a number of horrifyingly out-of-place, fenced-off and sign-ridden parks. As Snufkin, you’ll be tasked with restoring peace and nature to Moominvalley by foiling the Industrious Park Keeper’s plans.

Of course, you’ll do so wielding your trusty harmonica and a little bit of stealth as you make your way around Moominvalley, interacting with over 50 recognisable characters from Tove Jansson’s famous storybooks with art that looks like it’s leapt right off the page.

Moomin’ on

The Moomins are an iconic part of the Finnish cultural landscape (as virtually anyone who’s visited can tell you), but there’s a lot more to love here even if you don’t know a Moomin from a Little My. The combination of fun, narrative-driven puzzle gameplay accompanied by a soundtrack crafted by the Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós is sure to entice even those entirely new to the Moomin saga.

And while Melody of Moominvalley will be a paid release, at launch, you’ll also be able to experience the first section of it entirely for free! Meaning that you’ve got no reason to give this pastel-coloured take on the children’s book classics a chance.
