Alan Wake 2’s recently released downloadable content, The Lake House, has strong ties to developer Remedy Entertainment’s other ongoing franchise, Control. The DLC sends players into a Federal Bureau of Control research facility as agent Kiran Estevez to unravel its secrets and battle new enemies. The Lake House isn’t just more connective tissue for the Remedy Connected Universe, it appears to include an explicit teaser to Control 2, and what players will contend with in that game.

In an optional scene from The Lake House, Estevez is transported to the Oceanview Motel seen in Alan Wake 2’s New York, then to Control’s Oldest House. In the Oldest House’s Panopticon, Estevez meets Dylan Faden (aka Prime Candidate 6 or P6), the brother of Control protagonist Jesse. Their meeting offers a glimpse of what’s to come in Control 2, which appears to the Hiss breaking containment and potentially spilling out onto the streets of New York City.

Remedy announced Control 2 back in 2022. At the time, series game director Mikael Kasurinen said the sequel would be “an unexpected journey. It’ll take a while, but to put it mildly, this is the most exciting project I’ve ever worked on. It’s still early days, but it will be worth the wait.”

Last week, Remedy revealed another project currently in development, FBC: Firebreak, a three-player cooperative first-person shooter set in the Federal Bureau of Control. “As the Bureau’s headquarters faces a deadly and prolonged siege by otherworldly forces, only Firebreak — its most adaptable response unit — has the skills and courage to restore order,” Remedy said of the game. The multiplayer spinoff of the Control franchise, which was previously known as Condor, is coming to PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X sometime in 2025.

Alan Wake 2 and Control were both named among Polygon’s best games of the year, for 2023 and 2019, respectively.
