Beast Game is a werewolf adaptation for iOS with a bit of a hefty price tag

  • Beast Game takes players into a wide fantasy forest
  • Play as either Hunters or the Beast to deduce who is who and corner the beast
  • Use hidden moves, upgrade and adapt to random events as you go

When it comes to board game adaptations, there’s plenty to choose from. However, mobile seems to excel at bringing those which challenge you to suspect your friends and trust no one. There’s probably some sort of weird psycho-analytic point to be made there, but in truth, it’s just leading me to talk about today’s subject, Beast Game.

The best way to describe Beast Game is in its similarities to the social deduction staple Werewolf, which players of Town of Salem will be familiar with. That’s not to say it’s a one-to-one adaptation, however, as a brief glance at the physical version will attest. Beast, the board game, takes a far greater fantasy inspiration both aesthetically and play-wise.

For one, Beast is not based around simply waiting night after night, but also in actively searching the board for the titular beast. The beast also comes in a variety of types that have different styles of play. You can upgrade, use hidden moves and adapt to random events.

Beware the beast

Of course, with Beast Game there comes the ultimate caveat of the price. At $29.99 this is a very hefty sum, and like Clank! – a previous game we reported on – there appears to be no option for a hot-seat mode if you’re playing in real life with friends. All of this makes it difficult to recommend for any but super-hardcore fans of the board game, or those who are interminably curious.

If you are open to the idea of board-game adaptations though, there’s no reason to sulk. Because you can always dig into some of the options on our other list of the top 25 best digital board games currently on iOS and Android.
