Clank! is an award-winning board game that’s made the jump to mobile with burgling deckbuilding action
- Clank! is an adaptation of the hit card-battling board game, out now for mobile
- Sneak out of a dragon’s castle, burgling your way as you go
- Utilise card-based skills to fight monsters and get out alive
As every good D&D player knows, you don’t mess with dragons. Well, you do, but you usually make sure you’re outside of that 60-foot cone beforehand. And if you’ve always wanted to grab as much loot as possible before making a run from a giant fire-breathing lizard, then you’ll be glad to know Dire Wolf Digital’s latest game, Clank!, lets you do just that.
The objective in Clank! is simple; steal everything and get out alive. Easier said than done as not only do you have to deal with traps, obstacles and monsters, but also the constant looming threat of the dragon you’ve burgled your ill-gotten loot from. But like any good board game, there are even more twists, as you can always choose to go deeper into the castle, risking your loot and life for even greater rewards.
As for what the mobile version offers? Well, you’ll be happy to know cross-platform play is already included, meanwhile, a guided tutorial means even the most bone-headed of board game novices will know just how to make their first great escape.
Burnt to a cinder
To me, Clank! is one of those perfect concepts. Like Munchkin it lets you live out the usual TTRPG fantasy of a high-octane heist without necessarily having to do all the build-up that a true roleplaying group requires. Admittedly, I reckon a hot-seat mode may have helped given the rather hefty $10.99 price tag, but I’ll hardly complain given the basically required inclusion of cross-play.
