- NetEase has officially unveiled Destiny: Rising
- It’s a free-to-play RPG shooter based in Bungie’s popular sci-fi world
- There will be a closed alpha test that kicks off on November 1st
Some big news has arrived from NetEase HQ today. The mobile publishing giant has officially unveiled Destiny: Rising, a free-to-play RPG shooter set in Bungie’s beloved universe. It’s officially licensed, as you’d probably expect, though it will be set in an alternate timeline that explores the post-Dark Age era. There’s no word on a release date yet, but a closed alpha test will take place from November 1st.
NetEase promises to deliver the Destiny experience to our phones, complete with the shooting mechanics we expect from the series. And there are options for how you engage with the game. You can choose between first or third-person perspective while deciding whether you’d rather use touchscreen controls or a controller.
Throughout your time with Destiny: Rising, you will come across several characters, with each having a different story to tell and abilities to use. Part of the gameplay loop appears to be selecting the right one for your current task, so presumably, some will excel in certain situations more than others.
Learning their stories will likely form part of a campaign mode, but NetEase has confirmed six co-op strikes, so teaming up with your friends is also an option. If you’re a touch more competitive, it does cater for multiplayer fans, having various PvP to enjoy.
And, of course, there are exotic weapons to collect. It wouldn’t be Destiny without the hunt for powerful guns now, would it? Each can be customised to suit your combat preferences, so how much adjusting you can do remains to be seen. For a deeper dive, we’ve covered everything we know about Destiny: Rising.
Destiny: Rising will eventually launch on the App Store and Google Play, though there’s no release date yet. However, you can register for a chance to participate in the upcoming closed alpha test by heading to the official site.
