Dragon Quest X is coming to mobile, but so far only in Japan

- Dragon Quest X, one of the most recent entries in the hit series, is coming to mobile, but only in Japan
- Japanese fans can nab Dragon Quest X with offline functionality for a discounted price
- But a global release doesn’t appear to be on the cards, yet
Long-time Dragon Quest fans will be familiar with all the myriad entries that the series has had, alongside its spin-offs. But one that sadly went underplayed was the distinctive MMORPG-like Dragon Quest X. However, it appears (at least in Japan) that fans will now get to play the recently released offline version on mobile as it releases tomorrow for iOS and Android!
As reported by the folks over at Gematsu, Japanese Dragon Quest fans can get their mitts on Dragon Quest X Offline, a version of the release made available as a single-player-only experience, on iOS and Android for a premium purchase. Speaking of, for a real blast from the past, did you know that Ubitu was slated to bring Dragon Quest X to mobile way back in 2013?
Unlike other Dragon Quest entries, X features a variety of more MMORPG-focused features such as real-time combat that are unusual for the series. The offline version was released back in 2022 for consoles and PC, well after the original’s release date in 2012.
Here be dragons
Sadly, I wouldn’t exactly hold your breath for an international release. While not impossible the original version of Dragon Quest X was a Japan-only release, and while it would be great to have the offline version available on mobile at the moment there’s little if any in the way of news on that.
It’s a shame as well, I’m a resolute Dragon Quest fan based purely on the hours I sank into Sentinels of the Starry Sky back in the day, so the opportunity to experience even a different version of the series on mobile is something I’d really enjoy.

Whether that’s pie-in-the-sky ideas or some that could very easily make the jump, there are a bunch of great releases out there that are just begging to end up in the world of handheld gaming.
