  • Final Fantasy+ makes the mobile adaptation of the iconic original available for free
  • Explore a world of adventure as the Four Warriors of Light and restore the Elemental Crystals
  • Enjoy a visually revamped experience with redesigned UI and more

As far as gaming franchises go, Final Fantasy should need little if any introduction. The hit RPG series has been available on virtually every platform, with multiple iterations and even a hit MMORPG! Saying it’s Square Enix’s flagship franchise is almost an understatement, and now you can play the iconic first iteration in remade form on Apple Arcade for free!

Final Fantasy+ is based on the original Final Fantasy for the Nintendo Entertainment System, released way back in the yesteryear of 1987. Named as such because (as the urban legend goes) it was considered to potentially be the last game the team assigned to it would ever release. But you know how that song and dance goes, and Final Fantasy is now one of the most popular RPG franchises worldwide with its own host of mobile spin-offs.

The original Final Fantasy sees you take on the role of Four Warriors of Light attempting to restore Elemental Crystals to their original state and, naturally, save the world. The Apple Arcade version boasts a graphic remodelling and rebuilt controls for the touchscreen, alongside other improvements to give it a modern coat of fresh paint.

What’s your job?

I’ve no doubt that this’ll be a tremendously popular addition to the Apple Arcade library given how enduring the Final Fantasy franchise has been. Although given this is, of course, in some respects a remaster I also fully expect there to be plenty of debate as to its merits compared to the original. Although it’s worth pointing out that Final Fantasy has plenty of different versions already so I’m sure many will appreciate that it can stand on its own, font aside.

Speaking of Final Fantasy though, did you know that the hit MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV will also be coming to mobile? Better keep your eye open because if there’s any other rise from the ashes that’s more stunning than this, we don’t know about it!
