  • Fly Punch Boom is an anime-inspired fighting spectacle coming to mobile

Ah, anime, it seems we’re always talking about you, no? That glorious collection of animated craziness that more often than not is most commonly defined by the high-octane action of the shonen genre. But anime fighters never seem to quite capture that planet-cracking action, at least on mobile; until now that is.

Because Jollypunch Games are set to bring their fast, thrilling animesque fighter Fly Punch Boom! to mobile. It may look simple, but it’s anything but, and it’s set to hit iOS and Android on February 7th so you can duke it out with players on every platform.

Fly Punch Boom is pretty much all about spectacle. Each punch is a cutscene and it’s up to you to find hidden traps, obstacles, monsters and more to take down your opponent as you trade devastating and borderline ridiculous combos.

Hero factory

That’s not all (either)! Because Fly Punch Boom will also let you create your own legally distinct takes on famous fighters with the ability to create and publish your own heroes. Whether it’s the sublime or the ridiculous you’ll have the matchup of your dreams right in the palm of your hand.

I’ve often figured that the best kind of mobile releases are those that emulate the halcyon days of Flash, where anything (even those that really shouldn’t have) went. And Fly Punch Boom! would have been right at home there with its fun little gimmick of devastating, skyscraper-destroying punches being a standard move!

The addition of crossplay also means you can get even crazier no matter your chosen platform, and enjoy it in both the palm of your hand and any other avenue. But if you’re stuck for stuff to do while you wait for release might we humbly offer up our first list of the top five new mobile games to try this week for 2025 to tide you over?
