Game Room update adds Backgammon to the Vision Pro app

  • Game Room’s latest update adds the classic past-time Backgammon
  • The history of the game goes back hundreds if not thousands of years
  • And it’s just the latest of a number of classic board games to come to the Vision Pro app

It’s been a few months since the launch of the Apple Vision Pro, and while the device hasn’t exactly changed the world in that time it still boasts some excellent games. Case in point is Game Room, which lets you play classic board games overlaid onto a real-world environment.

Sure it’s not exactly Cyberpunk or anything, but with a choice of everything from Solitaire to Flip It, there’s plenty to choose from without having to open up a cluttered cupboard to find them. And the latest update adds the equally storied game of Backgammon to its lineup!

Backgammon is a game which, like many of its kind, can trace its origins all the way back to ancient times. But the modern version which many know and love instead involves moving pieces off a board and is a mixture of both luck and skills. And yes, you can probably tell I know nothing about Backgammon.

Gammon and eggs, please

Game Room’s hardest selling point is, essentially, that it doesn’t really do much that’s new. After all, it’s not that hard to just buy board games and play them with your friends, and then you don’t need the whole rigmarole of pulling out your Vision Pro and getting it set up. While the Vision Pro is still an impressive piece of kit, I’ve not yet seen anything that makes me think it’s the new piece of killer technology.

Still, even if you aren’t privy to top-shelf stuff like the Vision Pro there’s plenty of great stuff out there to take up your time. Need somewhere to start? Why not dig into some of the entries in our latest regular feature, with the top five new games to try this week?
