  • High Times is a mix of dating and cooking-sim from Philippines studio Yangyang Mobile
  • It was also Kickstarted in under a surprising 11 hours
  • It’s set to arrive on multiple platforms, including mobile, in 2025

It’s not altogether usual that we get to write about Kickstarter successes anymore. I seem to remember that back in the day it was pretty common for a game to become an overnight hit and draw in hundreds of backers, but it seems those times are done. Yet occasionally you do get those success stories, like today’s subject, Yangyang Studios’ High Times.

Now despite what you may think (I know I did) this is not some kind of Stoner Simulation game. Instead it’s a mixture of cooking and dating-sim where you own and run a donut café. Professing to be inspired by games like VA-11 Hall-A, and series like Scott Pilgrim, High times has the interesting conceit of being set in a world where people actually eat feelings.

The ethics of feeding people mood-altering foods aside (although I’m now guessing where the ‘high’ part of ‘high times’ comes from) this does mean that you have an interesting mixture of regular Diner Dash style cooking sim and more narrative-focused one-on-one interactions in order to figure out the right donut for the right customer.

High Times also has plenty of relationship drama to deal with, as even in a world where you can technically get high with no consequences there’s still the problem of dealing with your exes. While I’m sure some people might be at odds with the subject matter, a glance at the hints of the game already available does present an interesting game.

But if you’re looking for other narrative-focused games to tide you over while you consider this upcoming title, don’t fret. Why not check out our list of the top 12 best narrative adventure games you can play right now for some pointers?

And if that’s not enough, there’s always the latest entry in our regular feature of the top five new mobile games to try this week as well!
