Marvel Contest of Champions to introduce new original character Isophyne

Today, Kabam has unveiled a new character for their fighter Marvel Contest of Champions. But this isn’t some obscure hero that barely anyone knows or even a variant of a well-established favourite. Instead, they’re adding an entirely original character called Isophyne.
Now, while that might raise an eyebrow or two, it’s not the first time Kabam has flexed their creative muscles with Marvel Contest of Champions. Venom the Duck, Civil Warrior and Symbiote Supreme are just a few examples of previous characters that were designed in-house rather than being torn from comic book pages.
As for Isophyne herself, she is a sentient ISO-Sphere – can you guess where her name comes from? Her role is to guard the Battle Realm from intruders, including its previous inhabitants, the Founders. Throughout 2025, we’ll learn more about her story and these Founder individuals, but that’s pretty much all we have to go on for now.
Aside from being the newest original hero, Isophyne also brings an entirely new mechanic to proceedings. Rather than having to build up her specials sequentially as other characters do, she can choose which of her abilities to use instead. While that may sound like a small detail, it should shake things up quite a lot when it comes to the feel of combat when using Isophyne.
Her arrival is part of Marvel Contest of Champions’ ongoing tenth-anniversary celebrations. So far, we’ve had The Reckoning and a bunch of Halloween reveals. Undoubtedly, though, the most exciting news for fans so far is that 60 fps is on its way for all players in November. If you’re a fighting game fan, you know that’s a huge deal.
