  • Pokémon TCG Pocket is set to introduce a new trading system that’ll let you swap and share like real life
  • It’s set to be introduced later this month and will allow you to trade cards with friends
  • Plans are for the team to continue assessing how it works and tweak as necessary

One of the few pitfalls of the digital TCG scene is, inevitably, the lack of the physical aspect. The collecting of cards, placing them in a binder and fleecing someone at your local store for something you know to be more, or less, valuable than it really is. Fortunately, Pokémon TCG Pocket has anticipated this and is set to introduce a trading feature that’ll let you swap and share like you’re really there.

Now, we have more details on how that’ll actually work. To start, you can only trade cards of the same rarity and then only between friends. Cards need to have a rarity of 1 to 4, or 1 star, to be traded. Finally, items have to be consumed (i.e. you can’t keep your own copy) in order to trade them.

The system is set to go live at some time later this month, with the team behind Pokémon TCG Pocket planning to assess how it works once it’s introduced.

Trading places

I can see a few practical pitfalls with this system that might crop up, but at the same time for a hotly-anticipated feature like trading, I feel this is one of the best implementations of it that we could expect. That and the fact that the team will be assessing how it works and tweaking it is welcome news.

Of course, in our own discussions of the feature, we’ve noted that certain rarity tiers won’t be available for trade. That and the possibility you may need to use consumable currencies for trading is something I’m sure will be cleared up on release.
