Pokemon Unite adds Darkrai to celebrate Halloween
- Darkrai is now available for 13,000 Aeos coins or 790 Aeos gems
- Its Unite Move, Worst Nightmare, plunges opponents into nightmares
- Darkrai is strong against Pokemon like Decidueye and weak against Umbreon
Darkrai, the Pitch-Black Pokémon, has finally arrived in Pokémon Unite just in time for Halloween. Originally from the Sinnoh region, Darkrai is known for its unsettling ability to give people nightmares, and now it’s ready to unleash its terrifying powers as a Speedster. Aeos Island is not ready for the havoc this Mythical Pokémon is about to wreak.
You can unlock Darkrai in Pokémon Unite with 13,000 Aeos coins or 790 Aeos gems at the Unite Battle Committee shop. However, in the first week of release, the Pokémon will be available only with Aeos gems. In addition, there are several Halloween-themed events to look forward to as well, letting you get your hands on spooky Holowear.
Darkrai’s Ability, Bad Dreams, fits its terrifying reputation. When opponents are put to sleep, Darkrai deals damage over time without waking them up. Plus, any sleeping Pokémon takes increased damage from its next attack. This gives Darkrai an edge in battle, especially when paired with its Basic Attack, which becomes boosted and heals Darkrai when used against sleeping foes.
The Pitch-Black Pokémon’s Unite Move, called Worst Nightmare, takes things even further. When activated, Darkrai plunges a target into a nightmare and attacks them both within the dream and outside of it. This move also resets all of Darkrai’s cooldowns, allowing for a powerful follow-up attack, making it a lethal combo when timed correctly.
Darkrai’s playstyle excels against certain opponents, such as Decidueye. Decidueye relies on distance with its Spirit Shackle, but Darkrai’s Nasty Plot and Dark Pulse allow it to close in quickly, neutralizing Decidueye’s strengths. However, the Pokémon struggles against Umbreon, whose powerful defences and self-healing capabilities make it tough to deal with. Umbreon’s Inner Focus allows it to resist Darkrai’s sleep effects, and its hindering moves like Foul Play and Snarl can quickly turn the tide.
