  • The Abandoned Planet is out now, seeing you explore a desolate alien world
  • A classic point-and-click puzzler in the vein of Myst, it’s now on iOS and Android
  • Explore hundreds of locations, solve puzzles, and experience a fully-voiced storyline

Loneliness can be a harsh thing, but at least in the newly-released point-and-click adventure The Abandoned Planet, you’ll have company in the form of your robotic companion. Oh, and a massive, lush but desolate alien world to explore in the process! Out now on iOS and Android, The Abandoned Planet offers throwback puzzles and plenty of exploration.

Playing as a nameless astronaut, you find yourself marooned in an alien world after a wormhole tears you across space. Where is she? Who, or what, inhabited this planet before she arrived? And can she ever get back home? All these and more are questions you’ll need to answer yourself.

Said to be inspired by old 90s puzzlers like Myst, Riven and LucasArts famous catalogue, The Abandoned Planet has been a hotly-anticipated release here at Pocket Gamer towers. With hundreds of locations, lush, chunky pixel art, full voice-acting and more, it may be well worth a look for even puzzle sceptics.

Lost in space

While LucasArts and others such as Myst were a bit before my time, it’s hard not to feel the seismic impact they had on gaming. Little surprise then that the folks over Snapbreak Games are so eager to evoke that bygone period of puzzlers.

I reckon if you’re a puzzle sceptic this may be the one to win you over, as the trailer shows off plenty of exploration (not just backtracking masquerading as such), some daring moves and a good deal of cinematic appeal. Add onto that an intriguing story set-up and voice-acting to boot, and you have a recipe for a pretty decent point-and-click.

Once you’re done with The Abandoned Planet, don’t get stuck with nothing to do. Scratch that logic itch with our lists of the top 25 best puzzle games on iOS and Android!
