Usually when we’ve got a point-and-click adventure to cover, it tends to be either something that we’ve had our eye on for a while or one that seems to come out of nowhere. And in the case of Woolly Boy and the Circus, it’s the latter in this colourful, cartoonish tale of a boy and his dog, coming soon to Android and iOS.

Currently in pre-registration, Woolly Boy and the Circus is decidedly on the more cartoony, child and family-friendly end of the scale for point-and-click adventures. Myst or Still Life this certainly ain’t, but for younger players or those of an open mind, the tale of a boy and his dog becoming trapped in a magic circus may still be enthralling.

You’ll get the chance to experience all the trappings of the genre with the exploration of a wide range of environments. Exploring hand-drawn backgrounds and solving fiendish puzzles and mini-games, all while interacting with the bizarre and diverse inhabitants of the circus as you go.

Roll up, roll up

Again, if you’re looking for some kind of dark and brooding thriller, this certainly isn’t one for you. Anything describing itself as whimsical is typically going to be a bit more on the idealistic and cartoony end of the scale.

That’s not to say any of this is to Woolly Boy and the Circus’ detriment, however. For younger players or the aforementioned open-minded gamer, this may be a relatively sedate and laid-back adventure worth going on. And with some lovingly crafted, hand-drawn backgrounds it’s a fair treat for the eyes even from screenshots alone.

Of course, Woolly Boy and the Circus is only a small snapshot of narrative adventures on mobile. Why not dig into what else there is via our list of the top 12 best narrative adventure games on mobile?
